WHAT IS CPD?  

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) has been described as “the maintenance and enhancement of the knowledge, expertise and competence of professionals throughout their careers according to a plan, formulated with regards to the need of the professional, the employer, the profession and society.” (Madden & Mitchell 1993, p12). It is a scheme which encourages all Landscape Architects to participate in an ongoing self-monitored programme of self-education to improve the depth and breadth of their knowledge and skills of issues relating to the profession.

 

DATE OF IMPLEMENTATION

The trial session of ILAM CPD program started in March 2012. With effect from 1st January 2014, it will be mandatory for all Landscape Architects to participate and maintain records of their participation in CPD.

 

All renewals of registration with the Institute, for the year 2014 onwards, must include evidence that individuals have undertaken and accumulated the required minimum CPD credit points.

 

CPD REQUIREMENTS

Landscape Architects who are subject to CPD

The following categories of Landscape Architect are subject to CPD:-

  1. Registered Landscape Architects and Graduate Landscape Architects

  2. Registered Landscape Architects whose registration has been cancelled and desire reinstatement of registration

  3. Registered Landscape Architects whose registration has been suspended and desire reinstatement of registration

  4. Registered Landscape Architects who have failed to renew registration and desires reinstatement of registration

 

CPD Requirements for Reinstatement

of Registration

  1. Landscape Architects whose registration is cancelled or suspended or who have failed to renew his/her registration for a period of more than one (1) year are required to comply with the ILAM CPD requirements for the year prior to the reinstatement.

  2. Landscape Architects whose registration has been cancelled or suspended or who have failed to renew the his/her registration for a period of less than one (1) year, the number of CPD credit points required shall be proportionate to the period their registration has been cancelled or suspended or lapsed in the preceding year.

 

CPD Event and Accreditation

Any party other than ILAM, who wishes to organise or participate in any ILAM CPD events with the intention of obtaining ‘CPD credit points’ must apply in writing to ILAM for accreditation at least two (2) months before the proposed date of the event. ILAM will decide on the number of credit points and the decision made by ILAM on this matter is final.

 

The qualifying events are as listed in ‘CPD Credit Hours Table’ and should focus on topics related to the core skills and knowledge of the Landscape Architecture profession including topics which enhance knowledge development.

 

HOW MANY POINTS REQUIRED?  

  • A minimum of ten (10) CPD credit points for Registered Landscape Architect.

 

  • A minimum of five (5) CPD credit points for Registered Graduate Landscape Architect.

 

  • A minimum of five (5) CPD credit points for Registered Landscape Architect between the ages of 55 to 60 years.

 

 

EXEMPTIONS

  • Being above the age of 60 years old
  • Past President of ILAM
  • Senior Government Officers or Elected Representatives to the State Legislative Assembly or Parliament of Malaysia
  • Fello member of ILAM

 

Note: Application for exemption must be made to ILAM before 31st December of the year preceding the year for renewal of registration.
